Zebra TC72 device agent

Hi,

I'm trying to install Soti MobiControl on a new Zebra TC72 device. But I have not found an .apk that works, it always gives me the error "This device agent is incompatible with your device. Please contact your administrator".

Does anyone have any idea if there exists a version I can use, and where to find it?

Best regards,

Daníel

Hello daniel,

i'm not an expert but could you tell us where did you find the apk for soti client ?

On play store or on the download soti page ?

for my devices (zebra tc75x) i used this link

http://download.soti.net/apk/v1360/Motorola/MotorolaMobiControl1360_1476.apk

I'm downloading the client from this page:

https://docs.soti.net/mobicontrolagentdownloads/

It doesn't matter if I choose Zebra or Motorola, the error message I receive when I open the agent is always the same. I believe I've tried all combinations of the Zebra versions.

I understand that TC72 is a relatively new machine, running Android 8.1, could that be the reason?

I'm user, not expert at all.
Have you tried with an "add device rule"? And after create it, download the apk.

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply María. Yes I tried the Add Device Rule, with the same result.

However, I did manage to download a working .apk file via Google Play, but that means I had to log in to Google. Also, I got both an Enterprise version and some regular version, and the Enterprise version keeps asking me to enter a work email... I'm not sure it is working like I would want it to.

If you are already managing other Zebra devices running anything less than Oreo then you will need to change your staging and management processes for the new devices. You cannot use a OEM specific DA agent with any of the Oreo or higher Zebra Android devices. You will have to enroll and manage the devices using Android Enterprise instead using the generic AE agent. If you install this on a device manually it will enroll as a Work Profile device (BYOD use case primarily) but if you enroll the device during the Google Setup Wizard then you can use Work Managed (COSU). This is a product of Google deprecating the Device Administrator API used by the OEM agents in Android P, in favor of Device Owner. The deprecation has been a long time coming and we've had plenty of time to prepare, but its still a frustrating shift to have to deal with.

Thanks for your reply. I still haven't grasped all the concepts, does this mean that we cannot deploy applications onto Android 8 and higher using Soti?

No you absolutely still can, you just can't use the same staging and enrollment methods that you were previously using. SOTI absolutely supports hybrid environments of Android+ and Android Enterprise.

Ok, that is good to hear. Are there any articles or tutorials which show how to do this for the latest versions of Android?

Hmm, not sure. I just kind of figured it out myself.
