Lockdown closes open app and refreshes lockdown homescreen when network connection changes (Android 8)

Hi,

We are having an issue where our Samsung Galaxy Tab A users are on the field and when they change between store wifi and mobile data (and vice versa), they're being chucked back to the Lockdown screen and it starts refreshing. This happens every time and has been confirmed on all devices including the test one I am using.

We are running Android 8.1 and MobiControl 13.6.0 Build 1476. Is there a way we can stop it doing this refresh when they change network connections?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Kind Regards,

Josh

Hello

This article describes a similar problem and the solution. It may help you.

Your description is a bit too brief to know what causes the problem.  You could see if there is any difference if you uncheck the  "Update when device connects" option in the "Update Schedule" Advanced Settings.

Raymond is probably correct in this case.

It sounds like you have the system configured to have devices check-in when they connect to the system. When you switch between the Wifi and the Cell network the device agent disconnects from the server and reconnects on the other network. This forces a check-in.

Expected Behaviour is that if the device is in "Admin mode" then a Check-in should force the device into user mode as a security feature to protect the device from users too lazy to put the device back into "User mode".

They way you describe the issue makes it sound like you are just opening an app and not putting the device in "Admin Mode". This is the information that is missing from your post that makes it hard to understand what is going on with your device. If you are putting the device in "Admin Mode" then everything is working as expected.

If you are not putting it in Admin mode, then I recommend disabling the feature to "auto-check in" on device connection in the Update Schedule settings as a work-around and then open a case with the Support team.

You might also need to check:

1. if you have set any network restrictions in the profile with the kiosk configuration payload.

2. the device log in the web console to see if there is any abnormal script being running (e.g. from file-sync rule, etc) on the device when it switches between Wifi and cellular connections.

I've tried this and unfortunately the same results.

So to try and provide more context, when a user is in an app and connected to say, wifi, they can happily use the apps they're in. As soon as they walk out of the range of the wifi and the connection switches over to 4G, the device proceeds to chuck the user back to the lockdown screen and it starts refreshing a number of times very quickly, as if it's trying to update something (even though there are no profile updates pending).

This also happens the other way, where a user is on 4G and they come into range of a wifi connection they've previously connected to and it auto connects.

Disabling the "Update when device connects" in the Update Schedule has unfortunately not stopped this.

I've created a video demonstrating the issue on the tablet in the hope that also helps clarify the issue. Also below is a snapshot of the device logs at the time it happens.
